Lilliputian Landscapes

I am exploring the concept of scale, reality and illusion by creating fanciful environments using fruits, vegetables and other food as landscape populated by miniature figures. The food environments are fresh for just a few hours before they begin to wilt and decay. During this period I photograph the scene, sometimes using miniature flashlights for precise lighting effects. The final image is a real photograph with no computer manipulation, showing a larger than life view of these transitory environments. At first glance the viewer may see a landscape with farm workers in a field or a mountaineer in a cave. On closer inspection the viewer realizes that the field is broccoli or that the cave is a green pepper. The result is laughter at the absurdity, appreciation of the beauty and intricacy of growing things, and an overall feeling of lightness and delight.
